Mimouna! A Post-Passover Moroccan Celebration

Natalie will be performing Moroccan Shikhat dance with fellow dancer Erica Lingrell

More about the event: Urban Adamah presents a Saturday night Mimouna celebration on the farm! Mimouna is a traditional festival celebrated by Moroccan Jews the day after Passover, marking the return to eating chametz (leavened foods). Families open their homes to neighbors and friends, and fill their kitchen tables with an abundance of delicious sweets symbolizing fertility, joy, success, health, and prosperity.

Mimouna is the beginning of the Spring season and a time to celebrate friendship, community, coexistence, luck, and good fortune. We hope you will celebrate with us this year. All are welcome!

Kanta Judezmo

The Neighborhood Performance Project
and Congregation Emanu-El Present:

Kanta Judezmo, by Sascha Jacobsen
An oratorio sung in Ladino and English (World Premiere)
Narrated by Bobby Coleman
Performed by the Musical Art Quintet, Melinda Becker, with Special Guest, dancer Natalie Nayun

Open to the Public, Free Admission
Doors open at 7:00 pm

Kanta Judezmo is an oratorio that tells the story about the Sephardic diaspora through the lens of its central female character, with universal threads that traverse centuries, borders, language, culture and genre. Kanta Judezmo uses Jewish melodic themes, with motifs and rhythms from Spain, North Africa, the Middle East, and South America. Sascha Jacobsen is an acclaimed composer and bassist, whose music has been praised by the Strad Magazine for being "Stylish and Vigorous..beautifully arranged" and the SF Bay Guardian, "his concoctions hop nimbly through a world of styles while impressing with ear-catching intricacy and handsome technique." The Neighborhood Performance Project, which brings high-quality chamber music to community spaces, is honored to join Congregation Emanu-El in presenting the world premiere of Kanta Judezmo.
